Why do we spend more time looking for life hacks than it takes to actually complete the task we are seeking a hack for?

Have you ever scavenged the internet for answers to a homework assignment only to check your phone and realize you spent five hours on something that could have taken you a mere two hours if you just read the textbook? Not to mention, you might have learned something.

Or have you ever read a blog called Ten Ways to Get Rich Quick, only to realize you spent an hour to learn it took the writer of the article years, or worse decades, to get rich? Of course, you have, but that doesn’t stop you from reading them anyway. For all you know, they were born into riches to begin with, or maybe they knew the right people, or maybe they’re just making shit up to get you to read their blog. There is also the daunting possibility that they got rich by blogging about how to get rich, but often times, you have no real way of checking.

Why do we spend the time reading dating tips from some anonymous person anyway? Or spend hours online reading about sex tips only to walk away learning nothing? Is it maybe because one size doesn’t fit all? Of course, everyone can be a…
