Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, the United States has experienced multiple, unprecedented events, which has led to massive shortages and supply chain issues. Many politicians speculate that unemployment insurance and several rounds of stimulus have allowed laid-off workers to be picky about jobs. In reality, workers do not want to risk getting sick at work, are tired of being underpaid, and want time to rethink their long-term goals in the midst of a global pandemic. As a result, many companies in the manufacturing, hospitality, shipping, and restaurant business are simply understaffed. This has snarled the supply chain both with trade within the country and exports coming from other nations.

Another factor, which led to this mass exodus, also known as the Great Resignation, is that many people, who were dissatisfied at work, stayed at their jobs longer than usual because of the uncertainty of the pandemic. Since the vaccination rate has continued to rise, it means that job options have begun to open up again, which lead millions of people to quit their jobs in the spring of 2021 with an eye on something different.
